Praise the Lord and forget not all his benefits!

Psalm 103: 2, “Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits-.” It’s so easy during season of battle to forget the benefits the Lord has provided us. David reminds us in Psalm 103 that we serve a God who forgives, who heals, who redeems, who crowns us with love and compassion, who satisfies, who renews our strength and works righteousness and justice for us. We serve a God who is compassionate and gracious and slow to anger and who abounds in love. In the past week I have had people approach me crying and having a hard time handling life and it’s struggles. I have close loved ones on deaths door with cancer and I have lost a cousin in a car crash, I have friends struggling with guilt of wrong decisions. All these things seek to take my focus away from the good things Christ has done for me. This life isn’t the end. It isn’t a “one and done” type of deal. Our spirit man moves on to the next dimension where we will rule and reign with Christ. I urge you today to prayerfully read aloud all of Psalm 103 and thank the Lord for all his benefits. In Philippians 3:13, Paul wrote, “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.” Paul reminds us that there is one thing we can do. Notice he states ‘straining towards.” It isn’t an easy choice for us. Remind him you are thankful for all he has done and is doing. If for no other reason; I am thankful that at the least; I have salvation and a home and loved ones waiting for me beyond this life. I remember all his benefits and remind him of them and as I do I sense the Holy Spirit with me granting me grace for another day to bring more people to him. Howard’s Helpful Hint: Centered people consistently remind themselves of the goodness of God.

How Great is Our God

We have a great God. We have THE great God! There is no other. Think with me of the times that we received blessings from God we didn’t deserve. God doesn’t give us the strength and power because we deserve it but because we need it. He is always looking out for us with our best interest in mind because he loves us. It doesn’t matter if we feel worthy to receive it or not; it matters that God has made his grace available for us. God knows the hardships we face and he isn’t disengaged nor unaware of our struggles. I believe that if we got a dose of the reality of God’s greatness then there would be less stumbling around and more of the movement of the body of Christ like a strong army moving forward and taking ground. I encourage you today that if you are tired, struggling or energized and wanting more of God and his greatness in your life to release your faith to receive it. Pray for it; expect it; watch it happen in your life; then thank God for it. Isaiah 63:1 “Who is this coming from Edom and Bozrah, with his garments stained crimson? Who is this robed in splendor, striding forward in the greatness of strength? It is I, speaking in righteousness, mighty to save.” Notice the word “crimson.” That reference is to the blood Jesus shed for us. When he shed his blood he paid the price for you and I to have things we couldn’t have had before. It’s free! release your faith to experience supernatural empowering strength and what you long for will be yours through his grace! Howard’s Helpful Hint: Centered People tap into the greatness of God through faith gaining what is available to them.

Totally Amazed

I am totally amazed at the goodness of God. Like many other humans today I woke up tired physically and emotionally drained. However, The Holy Spirit had placed a song in my spirit to sing. The song is “Let the Glory of the Lord Rise among us.” The Holy Spirit knows when we need encouragement and he has the right ingredients to make us the people he needs us to be daily. When the glory of the Lord rises, the walls of Jericho fall, a woman in desperate need of healing receives her healing, the Red Sea parts and becomes stable ground for the escape of a nation of people, the discouraged become encouraged. Isaiah 60:1 states, ” Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.” What is glory? According to dictionary.com glory is “resplendent beauty and magnificence.” So when we praise our God and he allows his resplendent beauty and magnificence to rise upon his people and situations in our lives have to change. Nothing can stand in the way of of God’s glory. There is an “awe” that takes place and when God moves in evil has to move out. The evil that Satan the thief had planned for you no longer has any claim on your life and he cannot steal, kill, and destroy any area of your life. It has been reclaimed with the glory of your Lord God! Today, choose to praise the Lord God, make the effort, it may be a sacrifice of praise or it may be easy for you. Either way his glory will push the darkness out of your life and the peace and energy you seek will be reclaimed and evident! Howard’s Helpful Hint: Centered people learn to praise God in their times of need and move the darkness in their life out of the way.

Enjoy the Lord

I can’t believe that after all I have been through with the Lord that I still experience times where I have to remind myself to enjoy the Lord and the Life he has blessed me with. I have often times told people that if the Lord called me home today, that all I could do is look at Him and say, “Thank You!” I have been a blessed man living in a blessed time in a blessed nation with blessed people. When my focus gets out of touch and all I can see are the battles I am fighting and the battles that lay before me, things tend to become distorted. Do you find it that way in your life? Nahum 1:7 states,” The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.” God cares for us at all times. As I have been the Director of Emergency Departments around the USA. I have prayed with many people fighting illnesses in all areas of their life. What a privilege for me to pray with them. I continually remind them that God is faithful and he has their best interests in mind. Now I am reminding myself of the same thing. Many of our brothers and sisters in Christ that have gone on before us have had to do the same thing. I am privileged to live, to fight in the wars and minister to people. Today i choose to show my gratitude to the Lord with the respect he deserves for blessing me so that i could also bless others. Howard’s Helpful Hint: Centered people remind themselves to show respect and be grateful.

You can bind your enemy

Matthew 18:18, states ” I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” According to the scripture You and I are the ones doing the binding. According to dictionary.com to bind means “to fasten around; fix in place by girding: They bound his hands behind him.” Another word for bind is confine or restrain. Now how does a person bind the enemy? When the voice of the accuser starts beating on you and telling you something like, “God is angry with you for your sin” after you have already prayed and repented and asked for forgiveness and cleansing. You can now bind the enemy with the word of God by saying, ” Satan, I bind you with the scripture in PS 103: 12 states that “as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions.” and I John 1:9 states,” If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” I bind you Satan with the word of God you now have no claims on my life, past present or future. I am forgiven. The other cool part is loosing. I often pray prayers like, “I loose the Holy Spirit to have active free reign in my life today. I loose warring angels on my behalf, ministering and protecting angels on behalf of my me and my family. It will go well with me today no matter how rough my situation.” By loosing I’m giving God free reign in my life to help me hear what he needs me to hear, loose health and healing to my body and peace and soundness to my mind. I know this may sound a little weird if you haven’t fought much spiritual warfare; but suffice it when I say the spiritual world knows exactly whats happening when a Christian rises up and takes their place by binding and loosing.

Howard’s Helpful Hint: Centered people fight the fight of faith by actively binding and loosing.

Defeat Your Enemy

I don’t like giving alot of attention to the enemy, but I will give attention about the enemy. Ephesians 6:12 states, ” For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” We like going to church and hearing about God’s love and blessings and being amongst the brethren. I find though that God’s love is only part of the story. I have been in many situations where Satan was interfering and causing me harm in moving forward. It wasn’t until I recognized how to fight him that I began to gain victories in areas of my life that had challenged me for years. Read Ephesians 6 and use the weapons God forged for us against your specific enemy. In verse 17 the scripture mentions “the sword of the spirit”. The sword is the written and spoken word of God that can cut through any attack, accusation, sickness, or situation. I have often said that a weapon in your hands is useless if you don’t know how to use it. Read and memorize the word so that it gets in your spirit and you can recall it for the situation you need it. That’s when it truly becomes a weapon. This battleground we born again into was here in existence long before any of us were. The war isn’t going away until Christ return. However, the battles can still be won by using God’s word against the one who seeks to steal, kill and destroy. Make the Bible your best read book and forge your sword by memorizing the scripture and knowing what it will do for you.
Howard’ Helpful Hint: Centered people make the word of God their Sword and defeat their enemies.

You can rely on God

I was just thinking about God’s faithfulness in my life. I went to my journal and read entries I had made and it was evident that God’s faithfulness guided me through all the times. We can all relate to the good times, bad times and other times. I had a person ask me if i was having a great day. I repsonded by saying that i dont have good days or bad days; I just have days. Some are harder than others. But my joy isn’ based upon the kind of day I am having. Psalm 73:23-24,”Yet I am always with you; you uphold me by my right hand. 24) You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.” 26) “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and portion forever.” In this world that moves on economies that are unstable we can rely on God. Look back at your life and see that the Holy Spirit actually walked with you on your right side holding your hand and making your crisis a little less than it could have been and he went through it with you. When it is all said and done; all we have is God. That is enough to get us through anything. I dont understand it all and I dont do it all perfectly and I still have a God that see’s me through it. When your heart fails, when your joy is unmeasureable; remember that God is still with you upholding you by your right hand.

People Investors

I love investing in people. In my book Excel at Living a Centered Life, I tell of people being God’s greatest investment. He gave his son Jesus for people. So i like it when I find people to invest in who actually will do what I recommend. I love to see the joy in their eyes as they are moving forward and having great things happen in their lives. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 states, ” Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: 10) If one falls down his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help them up.” There are many ways to look at this scripture, I want to focus on the positives. It’s so much easier to have mentors and those who will invest in us because we can learn from their mistakes and receive guidance and direction when no one else is willing to give it to us. The scripture states that two are better than one. If you are a Christian you also have a third person. You have the Holy Spirit. At times when you don’t have anyone helping you; you can rely on the Holy Spirit. He never leaves you nor forsakes you. Like the scripture in Ecclesiastes states, when we do stumble and fall we will have someone to help us up. Unleash your enthusiasm and allow your mentors to see your passion for them and what they are investing in your life. They can help you through the good and the bad times. Relationships like I describe are rare. Protect that relationship with everything you have. I have heard and agree with Dr Mike Murdock who states, “It only takes one right person to unleash your greatness.” Find that right person for you.

The Holy Spirit is on your side!

I have made my mind up to fellowship and walk with Holy Spirit in a continual presence sort of way. As I got to thinking about this I read Psalm 139:7-8 “Where can I go from your spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?” 8) if I go up to the heavens you are there; If I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” According to the scripture the Holy Spirit is everywhere. I can’t go anywhere and he not be there. The next thought that came to me was; “Can you imagine being in a room with someone all day and not speaking with them?” How would you like to be the other person in the room and be the one being ignored? We do that unknowingly to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit resides within us all day long and often times we don’t take the time to acknowledge his presence or even speak with him. He longs to have a relationship with God’s creation. He was there when everything was created. The times are hard and require us to hear and discern the voice of the Holy Spirit. Lets remove the distractions and make an appointment to enjoy the Holy Spirit’s presence. Let your prayer life become stronger and more stable. The Holy Spirit has the answers you are longing to know.

Fight the voice of the Accuser

I hear from so many people that they feel inferior because they may not have a job or ministry or life thats in view of many people or seems to matter. They consistently sell themselves short based upon anothers opinion or a fleeting thought. They compare where they are to where they think they would like to be. That would be like me comparing myself to Billy Graham. What I have found is that these thoughts don’t just originate with the person speaking with me. We have a spiritual enemy known as the ACCUSER. If you look through the books of Psalms, Zechariah, John, Acts, Revelation, you will see mentioned, the voice of the accuser, the accuser, and accusers. Zechariah 3:1 states,”The angel showed me Jeshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord. The ACCUSER, Satan, was there at the angels right hand making accusations against Jeshua.” Satan is continually accusing us and our brothers and sisters before the Father. He uses spiritual forces to accuse us in our minds that we aren’t good enough, we don’t measure up, or that our friends think less of us. Its an assault on our thoughts that try to steal away any part of what God’s word actually says about us. That’s why Ephesians 6:17 tells us to put on the helmet of salvation and take up the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. That’s the only way we can win the battle with the ACCUSER. I am working at getting to know the word more and more and learning what it says I can have and who I can be in the presence of God. Is that you? So the next time the ACCUSER comes roaring in making you feel less because you stumbled or bumbled; bring out the sword of the spirit and weild it like a true warrior in Christ.
